Missionaries finally update prayer card

OCALA, Fla. — After 28 years of handing out the same prayer card, Jeanette and Richard Nusbaum, missionaries to Ghana, have finally updated their photo.
"We overprinted," says Richard, recalling the day in 1979 when he mistakenly placed an order for 100,000 cards instead of 1,000. "Rather than waste the Lord’s money printing new ones, we decided to use them until they ran out."
The cards officially ran out last Wednesday at a mid-week service in Kansas. The Nusbaums now hope their new photo, which shows them nearly three decades older, doesn’t shock and alienate long-time supporters.
"Some people don’t even know that in the meantime, we had three children and seven grandchildren," he says.•

Brazilian President Blames White People With Blue Eyes For Credit Crisis

Yesterday Brazil's President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvamade said that the global crisis was caused by "white people with blue eyes." Silvamade made this statement after talks with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on how to save the world economy and forge a global consensus. See FOX News.

During a press conference, da Silva, a socialist who told Brown poor countries should not have to suffer because of the mistakes of the rich, suddenly pointed his finger at Brown and said, "This is a crisis that was caused by white people with blue eyes. And before the crisis, they looked as if they knew everything about economics."

Sky News' Joey Jones said it was an "uncomfortable" moment for Brown.

"The President does not mind using fairly flamboyant language. He likes to give extensive answers to journalists," he said. "But some of it was rather awkward for the Prime Minister, who was standing there listening to the President. A few eyebrows will have gone up at what he said."

According to Jones, people in Brazil are aggravated at the injustice of the situation: they feel that the crisis has come from the U.K. and the United States, but yet it is affecting their country as well.

After the meeting Brown said he was going to urge the G20 leaders to support a billion dollar fund to try to reverse the world trade slide.

Number of foreign tourists visiting Japan plunges

The number of foreign tourists to Japan in February declined by more than 40 percent, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) has announced.

The JNTO said Wednesday that 408,800 foreigners visited Japan in February, a 41.3 percent decrease from the same month the previous year. The rate of decline was the second largest since statistics were first kept in 1961, after a 41.8 percent reduction in August 1971, the year following the Osaka Expo.

The plunge in the number of foreign visitors to Japan is thought to have been caused mainly by the global recession. It is also believed attributable to last year's leap year and the Lunar New Year holidays in January this year, which were in February last year.

In Memory of a Life
Charles William Nielsen
November 7, 1955 ~ March 19, 2004
Ideas are clean. They soar in the serene supernal.
I can take them out and look at them, they fit in books,
they lead me down that narrow way. And in the
morning they are there. Ideas are straight~
But the world is round,
and a messy mortal is my friend.
Come walk with me in the mud. . . . . .

Tokyo’s Hippest Neighborhood

By JAMIE BRISICK

Published: March 15, 2009

UP until a few years ago, Nakameguro was best known for the narrow, cherry tree-lined Meguro River, which bisects the neighborhood and draws tourists from all corners of Japan, particularly during the spring festival season. Then came the cafes, restaurants, bars and boutiques, most of which are low-key and laid-back, especially when compared with the hustle and bustle in nearby Shibuya. History & Geography 101

10 Things I've Learned by Bob Boardman

Bob and Jean Boardman

1. Whatever can be misunderstood, will be misunderstood. And whatever cannot be misunderstood, will also be misunderstood.
2. Outward appearances and public presentations do not tell the full story – in fact, may mask the true condition. True and wise transparency is indeed rare.
3. When I arrive at the end of my course and am called to take the journey of no return, the looming question is, Did I run the race well and did I finish well? "There are many beginnings, but few successful endings." Asian proverb
4. This earthly life is so fleeting, only a few seconds compared to eternity. The unseen is the real life. Why am I sidetracked so quickly and easily by the temporal?
5. I must play the Game of Life to an audience of One.
6. It is impossible to carry a Cross in one hand.
7. Change sometimes comes instantly. At other times it comes at the end of a long life.
8. A true, faithful and God-fearing life partner can only be found and had by trusting the great Searcher of all Hearts, the Living God.
9. Every living person develops a philosophy of life – known or unknown, articulated or unable to be described. It is there in life, action and in speech.
10. “Youth is not a time of life – it is a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a rigor of the emotions…Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years, but only by deserting their ideals.” – Unforgettable Men – Page 248. Psalm 71:18

'Missionary kids' spreading the good news

Allie Martin - OneNewsNow - 3/11/2009 6:20:00 AM

Two former missionary children have launched a news service.

Stephen and Laura Larson both grew up on the mission field. Stephen's parents worked with the Assemblies of God, while Laura's served with Youth With A Mission. Now, they have launched The International Faith Telegraph: World Christian News & Missions News.

Stephen says his goal is to provide information about missionaries working worldwide who are advancing the gospel of Christ.

"A lot of our links are to original stories we put together ourselves with missionaries and other sources, but a lot of our links actually go to other websites." he points out. "So it's a place [where] you cannot only see a lot of stories going on, but it's a place where you can also be introduced to other sites that can give more information about a particular country, topic, or mission group."

The Internet site will also promote Christian artists and technology trends, and will also have news from churches around the globe.
